The Academic Senate Committee on Curriculum met on February 18, 2020 at 2:10 pm in S-417

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 2:10 PM

  1. The minutes of the February 4, 2020 meeting were approved by the committee. 
  1. Based on the discussion at the last meeting, the committee considered the S. in Gallery and Museum Studies program. After discussing the proposal, the committee voted and the proposal was approved unanimously by those present. 
  1. The committee considered the following courses from the Speech Communication and Theatre Arts Department (remedial prerequisite revisions only):

    SP-212 Interpersonal Communication
    FMP-141 Introduction to Digital Media Production
    FMP-243 American Film History
    FMP-244 Elements of Film
    FMP-245 Introduction to Electronic Media
    FMP-246 Media Criticism
    TH-111 Introduction to Theatre

    After discussing the proposals, the committee voted and the proposals were approved unanimously by those present. 
  1. The committee considered the following courses from the Health, Physical Education, and Dance Department (remedial prerequisite revisions only):

    HA-100 Foundations of Therapeutic Massage
    HE-102 Health, Behavior and Society
    HE-103 Fundamentals of Human Nutrition
    HE-106 First Aid and Safety Education

    After discussing the proposals, the committee voted and the proposals were approved unanimously by those present. 
  1. The committee considered the following course from the Engineering Technology Department (remedial prerequisite revisions only):

    MT-124 Metallurgy and Materials

    After discussing the proposals, the committee voted and the proposal was approved unanimously by those present. 
  1. The committee considered the following courses from the Mathematics and Computer Science Department (remedial prerequisite revisions only):

    CS-100 Introduction to Computers and Programming
    MA-114 College Algebra and Trigonometry for Technical Students
    MA-119 College Algebra
    MA-121 Elementary Trigonometry
    MA-128 Calculus for Technical and Business Students
    MA-260 Pre-Calculus and Elements of Calculus for Business Students
    MA-301 Mathematics for the Liberal Arts
    MA-303 Number Systems
    MA-321 Mathematics in Contemporary Society
    MA-336 Statistics
    MA-440 Pre-Calculus Mathematics
    MA-441 Analytic Geometry and Calculus I

    After discussing the proposals, the committee voted and the proposals were approved unanimously by those present. 
  1. There was a discussion to reconsider the new courses CS-102 Spreadsheet Programming with MS Excel and CS-103 Relational Databases with SQL, previously submitted by the Mathematics and Computer Science Department. Members of the Business Department and Engineering Technology Department gave brief presentations of their response to these courses and the Mathematics and Computer Science Department presented a reaction to these responses. 

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 PM.
