The meeting was called to order at 3:03 PM
1. Committee Membership matters- Welcome the new committee members Tony Monahan (2024), Fei Ye (2024), Humberto Morales (2024), Celia Sporer (2023).
- Every present member did brief self-introductions to the committee.
2. Approve previous meeting minutes
- May 13 2021 meeting minute was approved by unanimous vote.
3. Old Business
3.1. eLearning Committee Newsletter.- Susan requested volunteers to facilitate the newsletter. Punita, Celia and Fei agreed to help with the project. They will start working on organizing the existing website items first.
- David Moretti offered to hold training sessions on how to edit the newsletter website. Punita and Celia responded that they would like to be trained. Fei said he was familiar with the Cascade software.
- Tony has already started working on one topic: Challenge of teaching physically active courses online. Tony’s colleagues have agreed to do interviews with him. All members have agreed this is a very interesting topic to write about. To conduct dance, swimming or other courses during the pandemic is indeed a very difficult task for faculties.
3.2. Suggestions for Fall 2021 Brown bags.
- Suggestion 1: Fei offered to talk about how to use “Markdown” as a brown bag’s topic. Markdown is a lightweight markup language which can be used to format virtually any document.
- Suggestion 2: Denis suggested that HyFlex teaching is a popular topic right now. Things that can be discussed include how to do “crowd control” in a HyFlex class during student activities, what responding tools can be used by students, and what benefit can HyFlex bring when students or faculties are facing a 2-week quarantine period due to Covid-19 virus.
- Suggestion 3: Denis mentioned that faculties are now using a wide range of free computer applications to do remote teaching. How to keep the data secure and work within the legal boundary of CUNY could be a potential topic.
4. New Business
- Changing PNT guidelines. Susan suggested that the PNT guideline might need modifications due to the dramatic changes in the past year. Zivah suggested that the definition of hybrid and PNT courses need to be further clarified. All members agreed.
5. Adjournement
Meeting was adjourned at 3:32 PM. Next meeting will be October 14 2021, 3PM via Zoom.
