4. Chairperson’s Report

The Pre-College Committee website has been updated via Cascade by adding new members and the minutes from the May Pre-College Committee meeting has been uploaded.

REVIEW OF SURVEY: The Chair created a short survey for committee members to review and complete before the next meeting via Google Forms. There were no suggested changes to the questions which were:

 

1. In what ways do you think our pre-college programs can be well integrated into daily life at Queensborough CC?
2. List any QCC events, collaborations, or initiatives that you know of (or have participated in) that involve our pre-college programs
3. What changes or improvements could Queensborough make to serve students in our pre-college programs?
4. In what ways do you think you can contribute to this committee?
5. Other ideas, comments or suggestions regarding the working of this committee?

ENROLLMENT / PERFORMANCE DATA: The Chair is compiling enrollment and performance data for precollege programs for the annual report. Members suggested that numbers be collected within the committee before reaching out to the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment. Before the end of the semester, the next meeting, the Chair will write to directors of pre-college programs with a more formalized request for data.

Updates on Pre-College Programs

5.A   BTECH

Ashley Legitime introduced BTECH, an Early College High School program at the college to new committee members. She reported that BTech is excited to have all students back on campus and that they are no longer offering the CIS (Computer Information Systems) degree but keeping the IIT (Internet and Information Technology) degree. She mentioned that they are excited about the recent articulation agreement between QCC and Baruch, which will allow students who complete the BT degree with an overall 2.5 GPA to be guaranteed admission to Baruch’s Zicklin School of Business.

5.B. CUNYSTART

Bonnie Flaherty reports that CUNY Start is working on a 5-year strategic plan and that the program is looking at co-requisite options for CUNY Start students, which would allow students to take for-credit classes while taking CUNY Start classes.

5.C. COLLEGE NOW

Mary Ann Meyer suggests that there could be peer mentoring and faculty interactions for pre-college students, as we work to make students comfortable on campus.

5.D   CLIP

Maz Nikoui reports that the registrar is planning on not having any classrooms in the Y building for CLIP students and that the ESL placement test is changing back to the Accuplacer. The test will be proctored by Antonio Contant.  

5.E   CTE Programs

            Michael Pullen reports that the paperwork for these programs is forthcoming.

 

6. Update on INTEGRATION PLAN

In preparation for our annual report, the chair would like to compile a list of integration efforts between our Pre-College programs and the College that are in addition to room assignments. Perhaps this can be begun after the survey of committee members has begun.

7. FUTURE MEETINGS: An in-person meeting has been set for Monday, December 5^th, 1-2:00 PM, Y Building, Room Y-9.

Academic Senate Bylaws

Article VII. Section 17. The Committee on Pre-College

 

The Committee on Pre-College shall consist of six (6) members of the instructional staff and one (1) student. Ex-Officio members should include the following: Directors of CUNY Start, CLIP, College Now, and the BTECH Campus Liaison.

The Committee on Pre-College shall:

1. Report and recommend to the Academic Senate on services and facilities available to the Pre-College programs.
2. Serve as a mechanism for articulation alignment between the Pre-College instructional staff and students, with respective academic departmental chairs and the Academic Senate.
3. Consider and evaluate proposals received from faculty, students, and the community regarding policies and practices pertaining to Pre-College programs in consultation with respective academic departmental chairs and Dean of Academic Affairs.
4. Recommend proposals and policies that would enhance the operation of the pre-college programs to the Associate Dean of Academics.
5. Serve as a consultative body for the development of Continuing Education and Workforce Development programs.
6. Provide feedback to proposed courses/programs and existing ones to ensure:
   • that they are presented to the related committees and/or academic departments to avoid any conflicts of interest
   • that they are in keeping with the mission and image of college subsequently reporting these new courses/programs and/or existing ones to the Academic Senate for its information.

The 6 members will be assigned by the Committee on Committees in staggered terms as follow: 2 members from 2020- 2021 (1 year), 2 members from 2020-2022 (2 years), and 2 members from 2020-2023 (3 years).  Thereafter, vacancies will be filled for 3 year terms.
