  1. Work with CLIP and CUNYSTART and report on Integration of CLIP and CUNYSTART Pre-College programs into college life, as motivator for program participants to stay at college.
  2. Work with departments to allow Credit for Prior Learning in their programs to remain competitive in marketplace
  3. Follow up on request for Enrollment Data from Enrollment Management Office with Dean Michael Pullin. Report on status to Senate by May 2023
  4. Work on Committee Guide Addendum: paste to Addendum in Reports folder on Cascade committee-specific procedures not covered in General Committee Guide​
  5. The Chair has attended Select Committee meeting on September 14th, 2022, for new chairs and volunteers to be the committee member to update the committee webpage via Cascade and to update membership names, post upcoming scheduled committee dates with contact information (an email) for those interested in attending a committee meeting, work on a committee guide addendum, and add a revision to account for the new work related to the Maintenance of Academic Standards with relation to Precollege Programs and credits for Prior Learning experiences.

5.A   BTECH - No Update

5.B. CUNYSTART

Bonnie Flaherty reports a strong fall enrollment with additional late Start sections to run and offers an observation that students are learning how to be students after 2 + years of pandemic education. Makes a suggestion to the committee that the report to the Senate in May 2023 in regards to student performance remain limited to the following semester results.

5.C. COLLEGE NOW

Mary Anne reports robust enrollment in College Now and mentions work in the “Future Ready” program that is ongoing regarding credit for prior learning opportunities. She is working on CTE agreements.     

5.D   CLIP

Maz reports robust enrollment for Fall 2022 with 234 students enrolled. In response to a question by Committee member, Arthur Abramov about low performing students, he mentioned a Pre-Clip program that is running, which is funded by the DOE, to serve these students.

5.E   CTE Programs

Dean Pullin mentions the approved process for CTE approval is the responsibility of the Pre-College Committee to read and vote on CTE agreements worked on by the department. He mentions that this is really a recruiting tool as we want students to transition into academic programs.

  1. Result of request for Enrollment Data from Enrollment Management Office noted as not yet received and Dean Pullin reports on his efforts to obtain this data.
  2. Update on INTEGRATION PLAN

A message indicating the recommendations of the Committee about the locations for the scheduling of classes for CLIP and other programs was presented to the Senate and OAA in 2021.  The Committee monitors status.

Maz mentions that Clip is running 7 morning sections with 3 classes in the Y building, 3 in the Humanities building, and 1 in the Medical Arts. Dean Pullin updated the committee on an ongoing project to turn the Y building into a childcare building.

  1. FUTURE MEETINGS: The regular in-person meeting times for the Committee in 2022-2023 will be determined by the members as of Fall 2022. A DOODLE poll is suggested to facilitate this process.

The chair mentions that he has been contacted by the Academic Senate Steering Committee about the Governor’s lifting of the State of Emergency that slowed or the suspensions of the provisions for the Open Meetings Law. Dean Pullin, who attends Curriculum Committee meetings reports that meetings will be allowed to proceed by at least 4 members must be in person. The chair will send around an additional doodle poll, as members may have responded thinking the meetings will be on Zoom only.

Academic Senate Bylaws

Article VII. Section 17. The Committee on Pre-College

 

The Committee on Pre-College shall consist of six (6) members of the instructional staff and one (1) student. Ex-Officio members should include the following: Directors of CUNY Start, CLIP, College Now, and the BTECH Campus Liaison.

The Committee on Pre-College shall:

  1. Report and recommend to the Academic Senate on services and facilities available to the Pre-College programs.
  2. Serve as a mechanism for articulation alignment between the Pre-College instructional staff and students, with respective academic departmental chairs and the Academic Senate.
  3. Consider and evaluate proposals received from faculty, students, and the community regarding policies and practices pertaining to Pre-College programs in consultation with respective academic departmental chairs and Dean of Academic Affairs.
  4. Recommend proposals and policies that would enhance the operation of the pre-college programs to the Associate Dean of Academics.
  5. Serve as a consultative body for the development of Continuing Education and Workforce Development programs.
  6. Provide feedback to proposed courses/programs and existing ones to ensure:
    • that they are presented to the related committees and/or academic departments to avoid any conflicts of interest
    • that they are in keeping with the mission and image of college subsequently reporting these new courses/programs and/or existing ones to the Academic Senate for its information.

The 6 members will be assigned by the Committee on Committees in staggered terms as follow: 2 members from 2020- 2021 (1 year), 2 members from 2020-2022 (2 years), and 2 members from 2020-2023 (3 years).  Thereafter, vacancies will be filled for 3 year terms.
