Meeting Minutes September 11, 2019

The Academic Senate Committee on Student Activities met on September 11, 2019 at 11am in L418

Committee Members in Attendance:

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 11:06

Approval of Minutes: 

 

1. Review and approve minutes from September 11, 2019 by voice vote.
2. Approve agenda for October 10, 2019 by voice vote.

Old Business: 

1. Review of Volunteer Fair:

Due to the rain, the setting up of the fair was a little hectic this year.  Otherwise, it went well.  Chair Kimberly Riegel sent out thank you notes to the organizations that participated.

Suggestions from the Committee included:

• Start communication earlier, possibly do reach out in the spring for fall fair.
• Continue to combine the fair with the Student Activities Fair in fall, it works out well.
• Continue to look for new organizations to participate in fair.
• Survey was only filled out by two of the four organizations. It was positive feedback, no criticism.
• 2 organizations did not show or call to cancel for the fair, but one organization informed us.
• Weather may have had a play in the turnout out of the missing organization.
• Look into the organizations that we invite to see if they may have longer commitments for students. Jennifer to follow up with Career Services about internships and how to get more students involved.
• Huge thank you to SGA and Student Activities.

2. Goals for this Semester:

• Committee has not received new charges; we will continue to work on things from last semester.
• Collaboration with Academies and workshops they may present during the fall semester.
• We will officially know what our charges will be on September 18^th.
• Chair Kimberly Riegel discussed that we had made significant progress last year on goals but there are some things we still want to work on.
• Continuing the open line of communication between Marketing and how to get the word out about events is still on our agenda this year.
• Discussed a possible Marketing workshop for clubs and Advisors.
• A discussion about a handout or QR Code for students on Club day for students to know what clubs are offered and what clubs are being represented on club day!

 

3. Student Survey:

• Handed out past version of the student survey and we looked at results.
• Discussed any updates that we may want to include.
• Discussed Marketing strategy.
• We will run the survey again this year to see what the results will bring.
• Kimberly Riegel will send out a draft of an invitation email for students.

4. Academies Collaboration:

• This is a new initiative for the Committee.
• Chair Kimberly Riegel is going to invite Michael Pullin and Michael Verdino to the next Student Activities Committee Meeting to discuss how the committee can help and collaborate with the Academies with workshops.

5. Student Activities update:

• October 4^th-6^th Student Activities Leadership Weekend (30) Students will go away to learn different leadership skills and team work. It is posted and Interviews are taking place.
• Constitution Day-Next Wednesday 9/18 from 12-2pm
• Latino Heritage Month Celebration 9/25 from 12-2pm
• Emerging Leaders Program-Gisela Rivera Facilitator 4 concurrent Saturdays 10am-1pm beginning 9/28.
