Meeting Minutes December 12, 2019

The Academic Senate Committee on Student Activities met on December 12, 2019 at 10am in L412

Committee Members in Attendance:

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 10:07

Approval of Minutes: 

 

1. Minutes from November 6, 2019 were reviewed and approved with corrections.
2. Review and approve minutes from December 12, 2019 by voice vote.
3. Approve agenda for February 10, 2020 by voice vote.

 

Agenda Discussion Topics: 

 

1. Welcome to New Members:

• Wilfredo Moran from the Business Department has been elected to the committee and will serve until 2023. Chair Kimberly Riegel welcomed Wilfredo to the Committee. 

 

2. Academies Collaboration:

• Update:
  • Kimberly Riegel met with Vice President Stephen DiDio, Michael Verdino and Associate Dean Michael Pullin to discuss the Academies collaboration and how the committee can become more involved in helping with making these events happen and getting students there.
  • Riegel reported that faculty leads and academy leads will be brought on board with the plan in order to serve the students best.
  • Riegel spoke with the academy leads and brainstormed different themes. Once Dr. Riegel gets a list from faculty advisors she will begin to involve student ambassadors to help begin plan of academy collaboration.
  • Riegel reported that after her conversation the academy leads seemed okay and onboard with the whole idea.

 

3. Update on Charges:

• Committee did not officially get new charges; committee continued to follow same goals and commitments as the past year.
• Chair Kimberly Riegel handed out and discussed making updated to the Guide for The Committee on Student Activities. The guide was viewed, discussed and distributed to the committee members.  Each member was asked to take a portion and make changes and revisions before our first meeting in the spring 2020 semester. 

 

4. Student Survey:

• Chair Kimberly Riegel discussed that the student survey will be sent out (early spring 2020) before our first meeting in spring 2020.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

5. Club Ratification Update:

• Group from SGA going to lobby to change how Club Ratification is done.
• Meeting to talk about changing budget allocations.
• The hope is that moving forward SGA can provide clubs with an annual budget system rather than the semester budget system that is in place now.

 

6. Student Activities Report: Ray Volel

• SGA Study Hall Today 12/12/19 6pm-10pm & next week: Monday-Thursday 10am-7pm (During Finals)
• Quiet Hours in the Student Union Building in effect on Fridays
• SGA beginning to plan for next year
• Club Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, January 29, 2020 in SUL

 

 

New Business:  

• Chair Kimberly Riegel mentioned to committee that both she and Secretary Jennifer Klein will both be coming off the committee at end of spring 2020. Not only will there be 2 new members, but both positions: Chair and Secretary will need to be filled.  Chair Kimberly Riegel discussed that during the break to think about taking a leadership role and if anyone is interested to speak up in order to shadow both Chair and secretary during the spring. 
• Chair Kimberly Riegel will be sending out a doddle poll during the break in order to get the spring 2020 meetings set, in hopes that everyone can attend the meetings.
