Steering Committee Chairperson Dr. Steven Dahlke called the sixth regularly scheduled meeting of the Academic Senate to order at 3:11 PM. The meeting was held through the Zoom platform.

I.             Attendance

54 votes were recorded at the time attendance was taken; 63 members of the Academic Senate were present during the meeting.

II.           Approval of the agenda

Chairperson Dahlke used unanimous consent to approve the agenda. There were no objections.

III.         Consideration of the minutes from the February 9, 2021 meeting

Chairperson Dahlke used unanimous consent to approve the minutes with the amendment that Senator Franca Ferrari-Bridgers was present (Attachment A). There were no objections.

IV.         Communications from:

A.           President Christine Mangino

The Senate received President Mangino’s March 2021 report.

President Mangino welcomed back Ellen Hartigan as Interim Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. There were over 300 attendees at the Town Hall and the administration is now taking questions from the chat and adding responses to them to the brochure that Vice President Faulkner has created about the college’s reopening plans. President Mangino also addressed the college’s strategic plans: members of the college community will soon receive a survey asking them to rate the identifiable values and there will be more open forums to dig deeper into the college’s goals (including campus climate, the academies, and teaching and curriculum). Once these goals are identified, then the college can seek out facilities, funding, and community involvement in those areas.

Lastly, President Mangino updated the Senate that the online Business Administration degree, approved by the Senate, was approved by the state.

B.           University Faculty Senate

Senator Tai reported from the most recent UFS plenary.

Senator Tai reminded that Vice Chancellor Cruz is leaving at the end of the academic year. She also offered two new updates: the UFS recently approved a community college committee that will put forward resolutions and actions that will enable the UFS to address specifically various community college issues. She also shared that there will be more representation for contingent faculty on the UFS.

C.           Steering Committee

The Senate received the Steering Committee’s report for March 2021.

Chairperson Dahlke reminded the senate that it had been one year since our last meeting before moving online. He welcomed new senators Amaris Matos, Lois Florman, and Anthony Kolios. He also asked Senators to remind students to stay connected with one another by participating in events and services that the campus has to offer them.

V.          Graduates

The Senate received the list of January 2021 graduates as an informational item.

VI.         Monthly Reports of the Committees of the Academic Senate

A.           Committee on Curriculum

There was one vote taken on the materials from the Committee on Curriculum (Attachment B). A motion was made, seconded, and adopted 59-0-0 to approve one new course (EDUC 20).

VII.       Old Business

Senate Technology Officer David Moretti welcomed the new student government representatives to the senate: Max Leonardo, Inty Sinche, Gianella Balda, and Kaniz Fatema.

VIII.     New Business

There was no new business.
