Steering Committee Report September 2022
Steering Committee welcomes everyone back to another year of shared governance and renewed efforts to meet our students where they are. We thank President Mangino and Cabinet for their efforts in welcoming and forging connections with incoming students.
Under current circumstances, Steering Committee will continue to conduct Senate meetings in hybrid format, with in-person attendees meeting in M-136. The first meeting is Tuesday, September 13th at 3:10 PM. We invite everyone to attend, so that all can be aware of the work of the Senate. A Zoom link is included with Senate materials and is on the Current Agenda page.
We welcome to the Senate Student Government Association officers: Kezia Prince, Student Government Association President; Jerry Li, Administrative Vice President; Silvia Quinonez, Programming Vice President; Chenyl Vasquez, Executive Vice President; Hafiz Tariq, Vice President for Part Time Students; Odett Vasquez, Vice President for Evening Students; and Nickole Penaloza, Secretary.
Steering Committee was represented all last year in the Five-Year Strategic Planning process, which culminated in a retreat in June. We thank President Mangino for her continued commitment to shared governance, and congratulate her and the Cabinet on an outstanding resulting document.
SC thanks President Mangino for her continued support for Senate activity in the form of Reassigned Time for certain Senate Standing Committee officers. The Senate request for 24 hours Reassigned Time, distributed by SC, is at the same level as 2021-22. The enumeration of officers' duties, as presented to the President, may be seen here and under Monthly Reports at the Steering Committee webpage.

CUNY Faculty Governance Leaders received a response from the Chancellor regarding a Faculty Governance Leaders Retraction Request that recent CUNY grade changes be reconsidered. The response was cognizant of CUNY unit needs and can be seen here.
In order to facilitate senators' understanding of their function in the Senate and to answer any questions any senator may have, Steering Committee will offer open hours, during which senators may drop into our Zoom room. As of now, we are offering Mondays from 10:00 -- 11:00 AM, and will add additional times as needed.
A number of vacancies have occured in Senate Standing Committees since Spring Semester, and the Committee on Committee's committee alternate list is depleted. Department Chairs, please notify Steering Committee of any of your faculty members who are looking for ways to serve the college.
A new sense of vitality is evident among students on campus as we start a new semester, and that energy is shared by our entire college community as we find ever more effective ways to nurture our students. Let us step into this new year with renewed commitment and purpose.
