- Introductions to New Members
John Talbird, Chairperson of the WID/WAC Committee, welcomed everyone. New members including Rommel Robertson, Sanjay Koul, and Chris Leary were introduced to the committee. Every member introduced himself to the committee. The chairperson distributed the meeting agenda. The secretary distributed WID/WAD committee minutes of October 10, 2018 and February 13, 2019 to all attendees.
- WI Waiver
- Nicholas O’Brien filed a petition for waiver of WI requirement on April 25, 2019 based on a D grade of MUS-250 African-American Music course taken at York College.
- The chairperson notified members of the committee about the petition on May 11, 2019 via an email and requested members to vote.
- Some members expressed that the D grade was not sufficient for passing a WI course. Others expressed a different view. D grade was transferrable in CUNY.
- Ten members voted “no” and two “yes”. The committee therefore denied the petition for waiver.
- Creating a policy for evaluating petition for waiver was recommended in the fall semester.
- Review of WI Certification / Future of This Process
- 65 out of 80 faculty members submitted WI documents for review by the committee.
- Review of WI certification was completed by all committee members.
- Positive review results were announced to faculty members. Negative review results had not been announced.
- Faculty members who were trained recently did a good job in teaching WI courses.
- The committee is recommended to decide a process for the following items in the fall semester:
- Announce negative review results to faculty members.
- Follow up with faculty members after the announcement.
- Motivate faculty in conducting WI courses.
- Vote on Chair / Secretary for 2019 - 2020
- John Talbird was nominated to be the chairperson position. The committee members voted unanimously, 6 out of 6 votes, to re-elect John Talbird to be the chairperson for the term of 2019 to 2020.
- Raymond Lam and Jeff Hall were nominated to be the secretary position. The committee members voted unanimously, 6 out of 6 votes, to re-elect Raymond Lam to be the secretary for the term of 2019 to 2020.
- Vote on Approval of WID/WAD Meeting Minutes of Fall 2018 and Spring 2019
- Since there were insufficient members of the existing term at the meeting to approve the minutes, voting online was carried out.
- ?? members voted “yes” and ?? voted “no”. The meeting minutes dated October 10, 2018 and February 13, 2019 were therefore approved by the committee.
- Other Business
- Committee members were reminded to vote online for any petition for waiver during the summer.
