Course Description in college catalog:

Provides a basic understanding of the effects of major illnesses and injuries. Provision of emergency care is the focus. Students successfully completing this course will be eligible to receive an American Heart Association First Aid Certificate.

  1. Students will demonstrate the knowledge and skills required in most emergency situations.

  2. Students will describe first aid for major sudden illness including heart attack, stroke, fainting, convulsions, and diabetic reactions.

  3. Students will identify the appropriate interventions for victims suffering from trauma and sudden illness.

  4. Students will describe and demonstrate first aid for bleeding.

  5. Students will describe and demonstrate first aid for shock.

  6. Students will describe first aid for poisoning.

  7. Students will describe and demonstrate first aid for burns.

  8. Students will describe first aid for heat exposure.

  9. Students will describe first aid for cold exposure.

  10. Students will describe and demonstrate first aid for bone and joint injuries.

  11. Students will correctly identify necessary supplies to fill a standard first aid kit.
