The Academic Computing Center (ACC) provides a wide array of academic technology; including a large student computing lab, podia, laptops, mobile devices, media services; several venues to host student, faculty and staff workshops; virtual servers for online courseware hosting of videos and academic websites; and technical consulting for Queensborough's academic community.
CETL: Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
The mission of CETL is to foster faculty innovation and effectiveness through the provision of faculty development opportunities related to evidence-based pedagogical and assessment practices. By supporting reflective communities of practice and the scholarship of teaching and learning, CETL facilitates not just faculty excellence, but student success as well.
Office of Educational Technology:
The Office of Educational Technology (OET) provides faculty consultation, training and support for a wide range of educational applications. Our instructional technology services include eLearning, Blackboard Learn, Blackboard Collaborate, Lecture Capture Systems, Respondus Exam Software, SoftChalk, VoiceThread, PlayPosit, SoftChalk and ePortfolio. We also provide support for various projects related to Distance Learning, Online Pedagogy, and Online Course Design.
The Kurt R. Schmeller Library serves the learning, teaching and research needs of Queensborough Community College. We:
- Create hospitable physical and virtual environments for teaching, learning and research
- Teach patrons to locate, evaluate and use information successfully
- Embrace diversity in all its forms
- Preserve the cultural heritage of QCC
- Deliver excellent customer service to QCC members and the wider community
- Provide the knowledge and technology resources to enhance learning
- Work collaboratively with other QCC departments to maximize student learning
Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs
The Office of Grants/Sponsored Programs (OGSP) is responsible for Sponsored Programs Administration and is accessible to assist principal investigators or project directors with any sponsored research or program administrative requirements. OGSP is available for:
- Assisting the PI with the administration of research and sponsored programs from inception through closeout;
- Reviewing proposals submitted to assure compliance with University policy. The Grants Office also reviews budgets to verify that all appropriate charges are included in the cost calculations.
- In cooperation with The Research Foundation, assisting the PI with the negotiation and acceptance of grant awards;
- In cooperation with the University and The Research Foundation, assisting the PI with the negotiation and execution of contracts and cooperative agreements;
- In cooperation with the University, assuring compliance with sponsor's policies, e.g., fiscal, property, intellectual property, human and animal subjects;
- In cooperation with the University, assuring compliance with the policies and procedures of the Research Foundation;
- In cooperation with the University and The Research Foundation, maintaining official records concerning sponsored projects including official grant and contract files;
- Assisting faculty and department/school staff in the preparation of proposals and other administrative aspects of sponsored projects as needed; and
- Training of faculty and administrative staff in the policies, procedures and practices of the University, College or School and sponsors.

CUNY
Coordinated Undergraduate Education (CUE):
The Office of Undergraduate Studies convenes the deans and directors of undergraduate education from across CUNY's 18 undergraduate colleges to share expertise, resources and high impact practices. The goal is to better coordinate the undergraduate experience in support of student success.
The Academic Commons of The City University of New York is designed to support faculty initiatives and build community through the use(s) of technology in teaching and learning. The free exchange of knowledge among colleagues across the University is central to better educating the student body and expanding professional development opportunities for faculty research and teaching. Creating networks and support systems that are enabled by easy access to quality digital resources will nurture faculty development through sharing replicable materials and best practices.
The Office of Faculty Affairs aims to work collaboratively with colleagues across the university to ensure that CUNY is a place where faculty are supported and recognized for their essential contributions to our students, the university and their disciplines. Current areas of emphasis include:
- Faculty development
- Cultivating academic leadership
- Reviewing Central Office policies and procedures with the goal of revising those that hinder the ability of the colleges to recruit, hire and retain faculty
- Identifying areas where the Office of Academic Affairs can help the university and the colleges address faculty-related issues
CUNY PDLM (Professional Development and Learning Management):
PDLM manages training and professional development opportunities designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies of CUNY employees. College and Central Office employees in various positions can benefit from professional development and training sessions that present progressive and innovative workplace effectiveness tools created by some of the most celebrated thinkers in the workplace learning field.
CUNY employees are eligible for tuition waivers for undergraduate and graduate courses at any CUNY college on a space available basis. Employees requesting tuition waivers for any CUNY college must submit a CUNY Employee Tuition Fee Waiver Form, signed by the employee’s Director of Human Resources (or designee). An employee tuition waiver covers either the resident or non-resident tuition rate. There is a 3-6 credit cap on graduate courses (dependent on title) per semester. Any credits taken above cap will be assessed at the applicable resident or non-resident tuition rate.
Research Foundation:The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) supports CUNY faculty and staff in identifying and obtaining external support (pre-award) from government and private sponsors and is responsible for the administration of all such funded programs (post-award). RFCUNY stands between CUNY’s principal investigators (PIs) and the sponsors who support them and strives to fulfill its essential responsibilities to both groups. Working closely with individual PIs and Grants Officers on the campuses, RFCUNY oversees employment, accounting, audit, reporting, purchasing, and special responsibilities that include management of a planned giving program; liaison with governmental agencies and foundations; negotiation of agreements; facility construction and renovation; protection and commercialization of intellectual property; and compliance with applicable standards in research involving human subjects, animal care, environmental and radiological safety, and conflicts of interest.
Outside Resources
Members of collective bargaining units represented by DC 37 (except Local 371, 95, 107, 205, 215, 253, 389) are eligible for Education Fund classes and programs. Terms for Education Fund Classes begin in September, January and April respectively.
NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (NYCDCAS):
Citywide Learning & Development (L&D) is the central source of training within New York City government for managerial, clerical, professional and technical employees. Through our Citywide Training Center (CTC), L&D offers agencies a full curriculum of open enrollment courses, workshops and seminars to meet the training and development needs of City employees at all levels. L&D faculty and consultants are drawn from government, universities, and the private sector. These trainers bring a wealth of experience to their courses, helping address employees' skill attainment and agency issues and situations. Additionally, L&D houses the Citywide IT Training Program, which provides access to over 200 high-quality technical training courses and 60 certifications from industry leaders. As well, our Organizational and Executive Development programs help City managers and leaders fine-tune their current skills and enhance their knowledge.
PSC HEO/CLT Professional Development Fund:
The HEO-CLT Professional Development Fund grants CUNY HEOs and CLTS support for academic and professional pursuits. Each academic year approximately $500,000 total is distributed via small grants to approximately 450 awardees from campuses University-wide in the Higher Education Officer and College Laboratory Technician series, as well as CLIP and CUNY Start instructors, and EOC Lecturers.
