Course Description in college catalog:

Instruction in the concepts and practices associated with the set-up, operation, and programming of CNC Turning Centers and Wire EDMs (Electrical Discharge Machines). Emphasis will be placed on using a CNC machine to cut in a two and four axis environment. Students will prepare and cut parts on a Kia CNC Turning Center with Fanuc Controller and a Sodick 4 axis wire EDM machine during laboratory time.

MT1-3 Select material and design dimensions for safe operation of mechanical components.

MT1-4 Apply technical knowledge of manufacturing and programming to the machine shop tools fabrication of mechanical parts.

MT4-4 Select appropriate manufacturing processes and apply technical knowledge using appropriate tools for the fabrication of mechanical components and systems.

 Career Preparation and Advancement – Graduates will demonstrate mastery of the knowledge and skills needed for entry into or advancement in the field of Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Methods by which student learning will be assessed and evaluated; describe the types of methods to be employed; note whether certain methods are required for all sections:

Students will be quizzed on the chapters covered. They will design and program parts on topics covered. At the end of the semester they will submit a projects report. The report will be graded. A final test will be given at the end of the semester.
