Decision

The minutes and annual report were approved for posting.

Idea of Creating New Institutional or Departmental Awards

Discussion

From annual report 2018-2019, since the eligibility of the Special Awards is very limited, perhaps it is time to expand the number of current awards.

Decision

Veronica Lukas mentioned about CARES award, Coronavirus community fund/award ($500/student) and also budget constraint.

Updating Awards Committee Guidebook

Discussion

Ewa Stelmach raised the question that Awards and Scholarship Committee’s guidebook is outdated and not available online.

Decision

All agreed to start working on the guidebook in the Fall semester.

Future Meeting

Discussion

Multiple committee members felt that they were overwhelmed by committee work during the finals’ week, especially during pandemic.

Decision

In the future the open and close of the scholarship application will move one week ahead of current schedule. In this way it could provide extra one week for committee members to work on our students’ applications.

Review of Merit Scholarship Applications

Discussion

The committee members had reviewed all the applications prior to the meeting. Ewa Stelmach briefly reminded the members the evaluation criteria. The Academic Merit Scholarship is given to all continuing students, who have a minimum 3.25 GPA, completed 24 QCC credits, and also registered for the upcoming semesters with 15 credits with two exceptions only. The committee members compared choices for all the applications one by one.

Decision

As for Merit Scholarship, there were 148 applications in total. 81 applications were accepted. 54 applications were voted as “Yes Pending”. 13 applications were rejected.

Respectfully submitted,

Sujun Wei
Committee on Awards and Scholarships, Secretary
