The Academic Senate Committee on Continuing Education & Workforce Development Committee met on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at 12PM on Zoom

- Year each member started with the committee:
Philip Nelan (Chair) (Spring 2018), Agnieszka Tuszynska, Senate Designee (Fall 2019), Wenjian Liu (Spring 2017), Anuradha Srivastava (Fall 2019), Alison Cimino (Spring 2018), Gabriel Lataianu (Fall 2019), and Humberto Morales (Spring 2020)
- Approval of Meeting Minutes: March 11, 2020: Approved
- New Committee Created – Pre-College: We discuss how six members may remain on the same committee. Wenjan Liu requests to stay on the Continuing Education Committee and may reapply, as his two year term is completed. All members present wish to stay on the committee.
- Elections for Chairperson and Secretary: The Committee motions for Phil Nelan to remain as Chair and Alison Cimino to remain as Secretary of the Continuing Education and Workforce Development Committee in a unanimously approved motion.
- Update on micro-credentials—A presentation by Dean Hsu:
- (AWS Solution Architect, Google IT Support Professional Certificate, Cloud Cybersecurity Risk Management Professional, Machine Learning/Data Sciences)
- With decreased enrollment in CUNY, Dean Hsu presents the value of stackable micro credentials. We would harness the draw of stackable, micro credentials in Continuing Education and Workforce Development to bring in more students. A stackable micro credential is a certificate or unit of study that could later by applied toward a degree program. Non-traditional students and adult learners would benefit from stackable micro credentials.
- Promote programs with stackable micro credentials: Health Care Systems; CEWD; CTE (high school students from Career and Tech Education); AWS, Academy Web Services.
- Train faculty for online learning mindset.
- Google IT Professional Certificate: Supported by Google for training for IT certificates. Has 125 accounts available. Entry level, no prior knowledge.
- Coursera—free self-paced learning.
- Five courses leading to cybersecurity.
- Higher Level Certified Cybersecurity Risk Management Professional
- Machine Learning / Data Sciences
- Private / Public Universities—Dual credits

- Virtual Meeting with the CEWD Advisory Committee—Save the date: 10 AM – 12 PM June 5th
- University Prior Learning Policy (from Chancellor) Working with registrar services: How can students bring work experiences and credits for prior learning into a degree program?
- Certified Veteran Programs (CEWD) Update Certified Veteran Programs CEWD Programs to create more opportunities for veterans in our program
- Rethinking CTE (career & technical education) pathways: working with high schools to build pathways (grades 13 & 14: industry recognized credentials or associate degrees): Nursing, Data Sciences, and so on.
