Student Affairs
Enrollment Management Update
- The Office of Admissions had a busy summer processing applications through “on the spot” admissions. With a strategic collaboration between testing, admissions and advisement we were able to “Fast Track” over 1300 students to registration. With the teamwork of various student affair offices, we welcomed 3,238 First-Time Freshmen, 974 New Transfer students, and 1,056 Readmitted Students for Fall 2019. (Note, enrollment information contained within this report reflects data through August 28, 2019. Registration for the Fall 2019 enrollment cycles ends on September 3, 2019.) Recruitment for Spring 2020 and Fall 2020 will begin in the first week of September, which will include counselors attending college fairs and scheduling visits to local high schools.
- On Saturday, August 24th, the Office of New Student Engagement hosted a successful New Student Orientation for over 1,100 incoming students and their families. The Orientation Program featured a new “Tech Tools” component to introduce students to the many technology tools they will need to be successful. Small group sessions were facilitated by staff and faculty with a focus on engaging students and exploring the many campus resources here at QCC. During Welcome Week, over 2,670 newly admitted students received information, resources, and support from Student Ambassadors at stations located in high traffic areas throughout the campus. The Office of Admissions and New Student Engagement are working on planning recruitment events for the fall and look forward to collaborating with campus constituents.

Student Resources
- Faculty and staff are asked to encourage our students to avail themselves of the valuable and free resources through the QCC Single Stop Program, located in the Library Building - Room 440. Ms. Veronica Lukas, Dean for Enrollment Management, will send periodic e-mail reminders to the college community outlining the grant eligibility and encouraging faculty and staff to refer students to apply. Please refer students with short-term financial emergencies to Ms. Amawati Gonesh, Single Stop Administrator, via e-mail at [email protected]. Academic Affairs
Academic Momentum Plan
- STEM Tuition Waiver – The program will continue in FY20. We have had robust program participation from our students and have historically maximized use of the funds with our online application. Students will be able to apply for tuition waivers for the Winter 2020 Session after registration starts in mid-October. The balance of the funds will be spent during the Summer 2020 session.
- The goal of the STEM Tuition Waivers is to promote credit accumulation in STEM courses while not jeopardizing TAP eligibility. QCC students who are in good academic standing, are legal residents of New York City, and enrolled in a degree or certificate program will be offered a chance to receive a waiver to enroll in one STEM course (includes lab) during the Winter 2019 Session. Student fees are not covered by the waiver.
- Milestone Scholarship - Queensborough will continue to help students reach their “thirty-credit milestone” by granting Winter 2020 session scholarships through the Milestone Scholarship funding. The scholarship will be applied to a course in which a student is enrolled during the January 2020 intersession to help meet or exceed the 30-credit halfway point of their education here at Queensborough. All eligible candidates will be sent a letter to their residence and through email.
