Current Massage Therapy Students
Program Requirements
Massage therapy students are required to have an annual medical examination, liability insurance, and First Aid/CPR certification. All students in hands-on courses (Eastern massage, Western massage, Practicum I and II, massage electives, myology, and kinesiology) are required to present completed medical clearance from Health Services, evidence of liability insurance, and First Aid/CPR certification to the instructors of their courses at the beginning of each semester.
Medical Clearance
A massage student medical form must be completed by a physician or nurse practitioner and submitted to the Health Services Office. Massage student medical clearance must be updated each semester.
Student Liability Insurance
All students in hands-on courses (Eastern massage, Western massage, Practicum I and II, massage electives, myology, and kinesiology) are required to carry liability insurance. Massage student liability insurance policies are available through membership in various organizations:

- American Massage Therapy Association
- Hands-On Trade Association
- Massage Magazine Insurance Plus
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification is required for all massage therapy students during the program. Students in hands-on courses (Eastern massage, Western massage, Practicum I and II, massage electives, myology, and kinesiology) are required to present evidence of current First Aid and CPR certification to their course instructors at the beginning of each semester.
Uniforms
All students in Eastern and Western massage courses are required to wear QCC massage student uniforms to class. QCC massage student polo shirts and sweat pants or yoga pants must be worn to every class. The uniform polo shirts can be ordered through Lands End www.landsend.com/school. The school code is #9001-3228-3.
Any color polo shirt is acceptable for lab classes. Students in hospital-based clinical massage classes must wear white polo shirts and navy blue scrub pants.
Attendance
Attendance for all massage (HA) and science (BI) classes is required. Students who miss a class must make up the class and any coursework. Students who do not fulfill attendance or course requirements will not be permitted to pass the course.
Academic Standing
Students must receive a C or better in each of the massage (HA) and science (BI) courses to remain in the program. A student who does not receive at least a C in an HA or BI course is allowed to repeat the course one time.. Students may not progress in the HA course sequence without successful completion of all pre-requisites.
Massage students are strongly advised to consult with a member of the full-time massage faculty before withdrawing from any class.
All students must maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of at 2.0 or better to remain enrolled in the program and to graduate from QCC. Students who have a GPA under 2.0 will be placed on academic probation and not allowed to enroll in massage courses. Students on academic probation who successfully raise their GPA to above a 2.0 may seek permission to re-enroll in the massage therapy program.
Academic Advisement
Academic advisement is required for all QCC massage therapy students prior to registration for classes. First semester, full-time, first year freshmen are advised in the Health Sciences Academy. Transfer students and continuing students must make academic advisement appointments with full-time massage therapy faculty.
Registration
Massage courses are listed under the Healing Arts program. Biological science courses including anatomy & physiology, myology, kinesiology, and neurophysiology are listed under the Department of Biological Sciences and Geology. View the QCC schedule of classes online.
