What is the ACC?

The Academic Computing Center (ACC) is located in L-117 on the first floor of the Library Building. The ACC provides a wide array of academic technology; including a large student computing lab, podia, laptops, mobile devices, media services; several venues to host student, faculty and staff workshops; virtual servers for online courseware hosting of videos and academic websites; and technical consulting for Queensborough’s academic community.

The Center’s facilities consist of a 72 student computer lab (Windows and Mac OS) and two multimedia classrooms, namely L-117 and LB-24 with 24 and 42 workstations respectively. In the computer lab, students will find faculty requested application programs that support their coursework. The multimedia classrooms support college workshops and provide venues for teachers to introduce their classes to various educational technologies. The ACC staff provide many services including individualized assistance to students and faculty, consulting for all academic technology related purchases, including hardware equipment and software specification, installation, repair, and related support.

The ACC oversees the operation of classroom and instructional presentation podiums throughout the campus. Specifically, our department installs, maintains and oversees the operation of over 135 fixed and mobile instructional presentation podiums. Each podium includes a built-in computer, Blu-ray or DVD.VHS player, projector, an integrated sound system and an interactive touch panel. Additionally, the ACC includes the department of Media Services which provides audio-visual equipment setup and support for a variety of presentations and technical assistance for a variety of campus events. Moreover, working with our Media Services team we provide technical support to all large auditorium and lecture hall spaces on campus.

Facilities at the ACC

Our facilities consist of a large student computer lab where students will find application programs that support their coursework, and provide Internet Access. Our multimedia classroom supports College Workshops, and provides a venue for teachers to introduce their classes to educational technology including Blackboard and ePortfolios.

Multimedia Classroom (MMCR / L-117)

  • This lab is for Faculty and Staff workshops and for use by faculty who want to introduce their students to educational technology.
  • This lab consists of 24 iMacs that are setup to run either Windows 10 or macOS.
  • There is a fully functioning podium system which inludes the follow capabilities:
    • A Smart Board with Touch Capabilities
    • VCR / DVD Player for Video Playback
    • Document Camera for display of written content
    • External connections for Laptop or other devices via HDMI, VGA or A/V connections.

 

LB-24 Student Computer Lab / Smart Classroom

  • This lab is primarily used as an overflow lab for L-117 (Check with L-117 lab staff to find out if this room is open).
  • This lab can also be served for Faculty and Staff workshops and for use by faculty who want to introduce their students to educational technology.
  • This lab consists of 42 PCs running Windows 10
  • There is a fully functioning podium system which includes the following capabilities:
    • VCR / DVD Player for Video Playback
    • Document Camera for display of written content
    • External connections for Laptop or other devices via VGA or A/V connections

 

Student Computer Lab (L-117)

  • This lab is staffed by technicians who can help students with technical issues.
  • This lab consists of 67 PCs running Windows 10 and 5 iMacs.
  • Software to support your curriculum is installed on computers upon request.

Academic Computing Center Student Lab

The Academic Computing Center maintains a 72 computer lab that is open to students for academic and personal use. The lab staff can provide the following services to students in our lab:

  • Support is provided for technical issues encountered while using software on the lab computers.
    • Note: Staff cannot teach you how to use the software.
  • Support accessing the following online resources:
    • Blackboard
    • CUNYfirst
    • CUNY Portal
    • Microsoft Office 365 Student Email
    • Starfish

 

Classroom Technology

  • Room Reservations - Contact the ACC, via email: [email protected], to reserve one of our rooms.

    • LB-24 Smart Classroom
  • The ACC Services and Support Multimedia Podiums are installed in 110 classrooms throughout the campus.
    • Shceduling & Swipe-lock access is arranged through your own department.
    • Learn how to use podium features by attending a podum workshop or making an appointment.
  • Many podium rooms have clicker cabinets - to learn how to use clickers, plesae attend a clicker workshop.
  • Mobile clicker setups for rooms without clickers.

Multimedia Classrooms

Queensborough has many multimedia facilities, ranging from small classrooms to large halls, with and without student computers. These classrooms are designed to make use of the computer, Internet, video, CD, DVD and BluRay as easy as possible.

Most of the following rooms require a swipe of your ID Card to enter. To gain access to swipe lock rooms, please have your Department ADministrative Assistant send your ID Card's ISO number to [email protected]
