Friends of Veterans New York Award
Purpose of award: To recognize the achievements of graduating Student Veterans.
Total Award Amount: $2,000 per year.
Number of Students Who Can Be Funded: Two (2) award recipients are to be selected annually, preferably for the spring semester, provided that there are qualified applicants. In the event that there are no qualified applicants in any given year, the award will not be given out.
Criteria for Award Recipients:
Preference will be given to the following:
- Graduating in current year;
- Student(s) must have engaged in active duty in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or as a member of the National Guard or Reserves who was called to active duty for purposes other than training, or were a cadet or midshipman at one of the service academies and were released under a condition other than dishonorable discharge.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
Selection Process: All eligible graduating student veterans identified by the Coordinator of Military and Veteran Services will be invited to apply and must submit a one page essay on their experience as a Student Veteran at Queensborough Community College. The Vice President for Student Affairs at Queensborough Community College will establish an award review committee to select recipients who shall be recommended to the QCC Fund. Awards for all selected recipients must be reviewed by the Scholarship & Award's Committee of the Academic Senate.
Recognition: The Friends of Veterans New York Award will be listed in Queensborough Community College's commencement exercises program as well as on the College's website.
