As a Queensborough student you will focus your education in one of our eight Queensborough Academies.
Criminal Justice focuses on the study of the system that includes law enforcement, courts, corrections, and related fields. It has its basis in the social sciences, which are applied to the causes of crime and its prevention and to rehabilitation. The field also examines social justice in society, including issues of fairness and inequality in society.
A degree in Criminal Justice can lead to a variety of careers including as a uniformed law enforcement officer, in corrections and probation, and in related fields such as law, forensics, and youth intervention.
QCC students may choose between A.A. and A.S. degree programs which are designed to prepare you for transfer to a four-year college or university or an A.A.S. degree which are designed to prepare you for immediate entry into the workforce. A.A. and A.S. degree graduates will be able to complete a bachelor’s degree in the same field in an additional two years after transfer. A.A.S. degree graduates may also transfer but may require three years of additional study at the 4-year institution to complete the bachelor’s degree.
Degree maps are available for each degree program on its page below. The maps, which were developed by your faculty members, recommend which courses should be taken each semester to complete the degree program in two years. Your adviser can also help you select courses each semester. We recommend that you meet with your advisor every semester.
